Amana Refrigerators

Whirlpool is positioning Amana refrigerators as a value brand and as such it faces fierce competition from other value brands available in stores all over US. Amana and GE Hotpoint refrigerators are in the same price bracket.

Named after town of Middle Amana, Iowa, it became part of Whirlpool Corporation in 2006 with acquisition of Maytag Corporation, which acquired appliances part of Amana in 2001.

All Amana refrigerators have a special antimicrobial lining on the door bins and in the deli bins.

Amana's web site does offer a refrigerator buying guide, which mentions savings with Energy Star models, but unlike Whirlpool’s page, there is no mention in the specifications which models are Energy Star qualified. Energy guide documents are however available for all models and although Energy Star is not mentioned, you can see which models have the lowest running costs.

Some of the Amana side-by-side and top freezer refrigerators (manufactured between 2001 and 2004) might be subject to recall, requiring a free in-house repair. You can check the details on the Maytag page.
