Most Reliable Refrigerators

Bottom freezer refrigerators are the most energy efficient and most reliable fridges. They are also less expensive than side by side and other more stylish refrigerator types.

While bottom freezer models are slightly more expensive than top freezer ones, they are more user friendly, since having freezer at the bottom means no need to bend to reach the lower shelves.

The freezer part on the other hand is a bit harder to reach, but it is used less frequently anyway.

Pros:

• all shelves easily accessible
• wider shelves than side by side models (can accommodate pizza boxes, large cake trays, etc.)
• multiple drawers in freezer part for easy organization of frozen items

Cons:

• freezer part a bit harder to reach due to low position
• more expensive than comparable top freezer models
• no through the door ice & water dispensers (since these are prone to develop repair issues, this can also be a pro)

These fridges normally have larger freezer compartments compared to top freezer type. Some models have separate temperature control for freezer and fridge compartments, some even have separate compressors (among others, Electrolux makes such models). The advantages of dual compressor setup are:
