Also included is FrostGuard™ technology — this is really an electronically controlled defrosting method, based on humidity control. It also monitors the number of times freezer door is opened, so it is a lot better than "standard" frost free freezers, which just turn on the defrosting heaters in periodic intervals, regardless of the real need for this or not. FrostGuard reduces humidity in the freezer compartment, so no frost is built on the freezer sidewalls and there is no frost burn on food items. For around $1000 this unit is worth considering. It has all the features of more expensive models plus the FrostGuard defrosting technology. The only weak point is no Energy Star qualification, but energy consumption per cu ft is only slightly higher than equivalent Energy Star units.
