Frigidaire Refrigerators
Frigidaire refrigerators are now produced by Electrolux, world’s second largest appliance manufacturer (second to Whirlpool; Electrolux acquired Frigidaire in 1986). Frigidaire Company developed the first self-contained refrigerator in 1916. Some older Americans still use the term “Frigidaire”. “Fridge”, the short version of “refrigerator” was most likely derived from Frigidaire – this is probably the reason “fridge” has a letter “d”, although there is no “d” in refrigerator (some people do misspell it as "refridgerator"). Frigidaire could be called the original “Fridge” company. Frigidaire produces four refrigerator lines: Frigidaire Basic Frigidaire refrigerator line. Prices range from $500 to $2000. Only some of the models are not Energy Star qualified. Gallery Frigidaire Gallery refrigerators are offered in black, white and stainless steel finishes. All refrigerators are Energy Star qualified. Prices range from $750 to $2350. Gallery Premier Frigidaire Gallery Premier Refrigerators are placed between the Gallery and Professional lines. Four side by side models are offered, all include through the door ice & water dispensers, all are Energy Star qualified. Pearl black and ebony white finishes are offered, prices range from $1650 to $2250. Professional As the name suggests, Professional is Frigidaire’s top appliance line. All Frigidaire Professional refrigerators are Energy Star qualified and all offer Stainless steel finish. All side by side refrigerators are offered with through the door ice and water dispensers. Prices range from $1000 for cheapest top freezer model to $2500 for top of the line side by side refrigerator. You can select Energy Star as an option when looking for the right refrigerator on their web site. An interesting fact: of about 130 models of Frigidaire, Gallery, Gallery Premier and Professional, only about 30 (belonging to Frigidaire line) refrigerators are not energy Star qualified – probably since Frigidaire’s parent Electrolux is from Europe, where energy conservation issues are taken quite seriously…
